To help call attention to the need to preserve trees worldwide and how we think about the environment, a global project known as Make a Forest was launched in The Netherlands last year — the United Nations International Year of Forests 2011. A group of designers and artists participated in the project by “planting” artificial trees in several cities.
One of the trees planted in Eindhoven during Dutch Design Week was graphic designer Marc ter Horst’s ”Rubbertree,” pictured above, made from rubber tires.

Yikes! Brutus, an 18-foot-long saltwater crocodile, rises like a nightmare of mythic proportions from Australia’s Adelaide River, lunging for the buffalo meat offered up by cruise operators. (Note that Brutus is missing a front leg — lost years ago, according to local legend, in a shark attack.)
